Advertising has an interesting unintentional benefit. Because by being exposed to work that isn’t necessarily targeted at our own demographic, we get a glimpse at what some other lifestyles are like and what issues they face. With this insight, we made commercials for and imaginary target audience of polygamists to promote HBO's Big Love. It did a good job of demonstrating some of the awkward themes of the series by selling products for polygamists and bring them to life in print and commercial forms. Plus, it gave me the chance to understand what it must be like to work on terrible commercials for big soulless, risk averse brands.
